Exploring the Heart of Nepal:

Embarking on an adventure from the bustling streets of Delhi to the serene landscapes of Nepal, I ventured into a journey that promised cultural enrichment, spiritual awakening, and an escape into nature’s tranquillity. The itinerary for this exhilarating trip was meticulously planned, encompassing the vibrant life of Kathmandu and the serene beauty of Pokhara.

Day 1 (16th Feb, Friday): From Delhi to Kathmandu

The journey kicked off with an early morning flight from Delhi, departing at 7:40 AM and arriving in the heart of Nepal, Kathmandu, by 9:40 AM. The first order of business was transferring from Tribhuvan International Airport to Flock Hostel, a cosy accommodation costing approximately 1,400 INR (around 2,232 NPR) for two days. The afternoon was spent exploring Thamel, a bustling tourist hub filled with shops, cafes, and a glimpse into Nepal’s vibrant culture. The evening was reserved for a spiritual visit to the Boudhanath Stupa, an iconic symbol of Tibetan Buddhism in Nepal, followed by a lively night at the Purple Haze Rock Bar, with free stag entry, marking a perfect end to our first day.

Day 2 (17th Feb, Saturday): Kathmandu’s Cultural Exploration

The following day began with a spiritual visit to the Pashupati Nath Temple, immersing in the divine atmosphere. The afternoon took us to Patan Durbar Square, a testament to Nepal’s rich cultural heritage, where we enjoyed lunch overlooking the historic square. The evening brought us back to Thamel for dinner and a visit to Lord of the Drinks, featuring a 1,000 NPR (approximately 630 INR) stag entry, encapsulating another day filled with exploration and cultural immersion.

Day 3 (18th Feb, Sunday): Journey to Pokhara

An early bus at 7 AM took us on an 11-hour journey to Pokhara, costing 1,100 NPR (around 693 INR), with our arrival at Zostel Pokhara marking the beginning of a serene chapter. The accommodation, costing 710 INR (approximately 1,133 NPR) for two days, was our retreat. The afternoon and evening were spent leisurely exploring Lakeside, the picturesque area around Phewa Lake, concluding with a dinner and enjoying the breathtaking views.

Day 4 (19th Feb, Monday): Delving Deeper into Pokhara

An afternoon visit to Devi Falls and the mystical Gupteshwor Mahadev Cave followed by a relaxed morning at Zostel. After lunch in Lakeside, the evening was dedicated to exploring local markets for souvenirs, culminating in a special farewell dinner by the lake and a night out at Club Sixteen, with a 1,000 NPR (approximately 630 INR) stag entry, wrapping up our Pokhara adventure.

Day 5 (20th Feb, Tuesday): Return Journey

Our return journey began with a 2 PM flight from Pokhara to Kathmandu via Buddha Air, costing 2,000 NPR (around 1,260 INR), and a lingering stay at Raddison Lounge in Tribhuvan International Airport. The evening flight back to Delhi marked the end of our Nepalese sojourn.

Reflections and Insights

The journey was an amalgamation of cultural exploration, spiritual quests, and nature’s allure. However, it’s noteworthy to mention that the experience at Kathmandu airport was less than ideal, with customs clearance taking an astonishing two hours, a stark contrast to the hospitality and warmth experienced throughout Nepal. Carry local cash around. Use the apps InDrive and Pathao to get rides throughout the country.
